Ledger OS™ (Operating System) Update Guide
Ledger Wallet 4.0 progressive rollout
The Ledger Wallet 4.0 update is being rolled out progressively, so you may not have access to the new interface yet. If the steps or screens described in this article don’t match what you currently see in your Ledger Wallet, this is expected.

Re-Pair Your Device
After the November
2025 Ledger OS
Update
After the November 2025 Ledger OS update, you will have to pair again over Bluetooth®. Simply open Ledger Wallet on mobile, navigate to My Ledger via the Profile menu in the top-left corner, and under the Device section, select Add new + then your device to re-pair it. If you have not customized it, your Ledger device will appear in the list of available Bluetooth® devices with a shortened name. For example, a device previously shown as “Ledger Flex 01AB” will now appear simply as “01AB”.
Update your Ledger device's OS to benefit from the optimal security level and user experience offered by our products. Updating your device has no impact on your crypto assets or the functionality of your device.
Before you begin
- Update Ledger Wallet™ (formerly Ledger Live) through the notification banner or download the latest version.
- Make sure you're using a desktop/laptop computer or an Android phone connected to your Ledger device via USB. Updating your Ledger OS™ on a tablet is not currently possible.
- Make sure your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase is available, as a precaution. Don't have your Secret Recovery Phrase?
- Blockchain apps on your device will be automatically reinstalled after the update.
- Linux users: If your Ledger Nano S™ device currently has version 1.5.5, you must add new udev rules. Check the Linux section of this article for instructions.
Update your Ledger device Operating System (OS)
Instructions
You can update Ledger OS with Ledger Wallet desktop or Ledger Wallet mobile.

Your device will display: Update Ledger OS? and the OS version. -
Tap
Install
to confirm the
installation
of the Ledger
OS update. The
update process
will continue
automatically.
Ledger Wallet
will display
multiple
progress
loaders, while
your device
will show
Installing
update
and
Updating
OS.

Enter your PIN
to confirm.
Your device is successfully updated once Ledger Wallet displays Your Ledger OS is up to date.
You've successfully updated your Ledger OS (Operating System). Click Restore apps and Ledger Wallet will automatically reinstall apps on your device.
You can update your Ledger OS via Bluetooth® on the Ledger Wallet mobile app. Once the update is available, you'll see the notification in your Ledger Wallet app.
- Open the Ledger Wallet app.
- Connect your Ledger Wallet app and Ledger Stax using Bluetooth®.

Tap
Update
now.
The update progress bar will appear. - Unlock your Ledger.
- Let the installation finish.
- When your Ledger device has been restarted for the last time, unlock it.
Your Ledger Wallet app will display Your Ledger Stax / Ledger Flex / Ledger Nano Gen5 is up-to-date. The Ledger device settings and apps will be reinstalled after the update.
Things to keep in mind:
- The device configuration (name, settings, picture, language, and list of apps) is backed up right before the update. After the update, the device is restored to its previous state.
- During the update, you need to stay within the Ledger Wallet app and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Your Ledger will restart multiple times during the update.
Device stuck in Update Mode?
If your device gets stuck in Update Mode, try using Ledger Wallet on desktop to resume the update there. Learn more about update mode here.

Desktop Instructions

Start Ledger
Wallet and go
to My Ledger.
- Navigate to My Ledger via the Profile menu in the top-right corner.
- Connect and unlock your device.
- If asked, allow My Ledger on your device.

Start the OS
update.
- Click on Update OS in the notification banner.
- If you don't see the notification banner, please try again later as the release is rolled out progressively.
- Carefully read all instructions on the window that appears.
- If your recovery phrase is written down and accessible, tick the checkbox at the bottom and click on Continue.
- The update will be downloaded while your device displays Processing.

- Press the right button to select Confirm update. Press both buttons to confirm.
- Enter your PIN to confirm. Your device will then restart and install the update.

The update
process will
continue
automatically.
- Your Ledger Nano X displays Processing.
- Never disconnect your device at this stage.
- Your device is successfully updated once Ledger Wallet displays Your Ledger OS is up to date and your Ledger Nano X asks for your PIN.
- Your apps will be reinstalled automatically after you have entered your PIN.
Mobile Instructions
Ledger OS update requirements
Bluetooth updates are only available for Ledger OS version 2.4.1 and above. If your Ledger Nano X is running a Ledger OS version below 2.4.1, you must update it using a USB cable connection. Since iPhone does not support USB cable connections with Ledger devices, you'll need to use a desktop computer or an Android device to perform the initial update to version 2.4.1 or higher. Once updated, future updates can be done via Bluetooth.
- Open the Ledger Wallet app.
- Connect your Ledger Wallet app and Ledger Nano X using Bluetooth®.

Tap Update
now.
The update progress bar will appear. - Unlock your Ledger Nano X.
- Let the installation finish.
- When Ledger Nano X has been restarted for the last time, unlock it.
Your Ledger Wallet app will display Your Ledger Nano X is up-to-date. The Ledger device settings and apps will be reinstalled after the update.
Did your device reset?
If your device displays Welcome to Ledger Nano X, it has been reset. Don't worry, your crypto assets are safe as long as you have your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase. Please follow the instructions to Restore access to your assets from your secret recovery phrase.
Bluetooth® pairing issues (mobile only)
If you encounter Bluetooth® connectivity issues on your mobile device following Ledger OS update, we recommend removing the Bluetooth® pairing for your device and forgetting the Ledger Nano X connection on your phone. Then try the pairing again. For more information, refer to the Fix Bluetooth issues article.

Mobile Instructions (Android only)
- Connect Ledger Nano S Plus to your smartphone using a USB cable.
- Open the Ledger Wallet app.
- Navigate to My Ledger via the Profile menu in the top-left corner.

In the
USB
section, you
should see
your Ledger
Nano S Plus.
Tap it and
confirm that
you
allow My
Ledger to
access your
device.
You'll see a notification stating that Ledger OS update is available. -
Tap
Update.
A pop-up window with instructions will appear. Read the instructions carefully. -
Tick the
checkbox at
the bottom to
confirm that
you have your
recovery
phrase and tap
Continue.
Ledger Nano S Plus will display New OS and version number. - Select Confirm update by pressing the right button.
- Press both buttons simultaneously to confirm the update.
- Enter your PIN to confirm the update. Your device will restart and the update process will continue automatically.
The process is completed when Ledger Wallet displays Your Ledger OS is up to date.

Start Ledger

- Connect and unlock your device.
- If asked, allow My Ledger to access your device.
- Check which Ledger OS version is currently installed on your Ledger Nano S:

- Carefully read all instructions on the window that appears.
- If your secret recovery phrase is written down and accessible, tick the checkbox at the bottom and click on Continue.

Your device will
show
update
OS, the
version
number, and an
Identifier.
- Verify that the Identifier in Ledger Wallet matches the one on your Ledger Nano S.
- Press both buttons to select Perform update.
- Enter your PIN to confirm. Your device will restart.
The update process will continue automatically. Ledger Wallet will display multiple progress loaders, while your Ledger Nano S displays Processing. Your device is successfully updated once Ledger Wallet displays Your Ledger OS is up to date.
After the update
- You've successfully updated your Ledger Nano S operating system. Ledger Wallet will automatically re-install apps on your device. You may notice an increase in app storage capacity.
- If your device displays Welcome to Ledger Nano S, it has been reset. Don't worry, your crypto assets are safe as long as you have your 24-word secret recovery phrase. Please follow the instructions to Restore access to your assets from your secret recovery phrase.
- From now on, menu items are selected with the right or left button. Press both buttons simultaneously to validate a selection.
